MARTIN.
Helen Rosecrans was born in Jonesville, Hillsdale county, Mich., Nov. 7 1828. In 1842 she was united in marriage to Elias Martin, of Litchfield, Mich. In 1856 they made their home in Grundy Co., Ill, where they remained untill 1873 when they moved to Cresco. In the month of December 1893, death separated them temporarily in the removal of the husband of a half a century. Ten children were born to them, of whom six are living, five being present. Mrs. Martin was a devoted Christian, a member of the M. E. church and although unable to attend the services for some years, she never abandoned her faith. During her final illness she enjoyed the presence and tender care of her daughters, Mrs. Goocher, of Wisconsin and Mrs. Van Slyke, of this city. She has known many sorrows and much suffering. It is a blessed release for her to have bid farewell to earth to share the joys of heaven.
She died Friday, Feb. 13 and funeral services were conducted by Rev. Gammons at the M. E. church on Tuesday, Feb 17. Her grave is in Oak Lawn.
