“Attempted Felo De Se.—Our town was thrown into a terrible state of excitement this morning by an attempt of Widow Hayes to destroy her own life. It seems she has been partially deranged for some time, her insanity dating its origan{sic} with the enlistment of her son, I. W. Poe, into the U. S. army. In some manner she obtained a razor at about daylight this morning, with which she succeeded in cutting her throat most horribly. ”
