“The news reached us too late for last week’s issue that Fitz James McKay, who left here as a member of Company I, 38th Iowa Regt., died in the hospital at Dubuque of constipation of the bowels. Four short weeks ago he left this place with the company marching to join its regiment at the place of rendezvous in the full enjoyment of health. His illness was the result of exposure and over exertion in the trip to Dubuque. He was a young man scarcely in the prime of life, of good literary attainments and editor of the Star of the West during its publication here. ”
