OBITUARY.
William Muggenburg was born September 26, 1828, at Yarin, Province Pommern, Germany. As the child of christian parents he was baptized in early infancy, went to school and was confirmed at 14 After confirmation he had to work out to earn his own bread. April 25, 1856, he was married to Hanna Grunwald, his mourning widow. This marriage was blessed with nine children, five of whom were born in Germany and four in this country. In 1867 he came with his family to Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he lived two years. Then he came to Cresco, Iowa, and rented a farm of Dr. Clemmer; then he bought a farm of his own, four miles southwest of Cresco. The last two years of his life he spent in town, enjoying the rest after a long life of hard work and labor. About four weeks ago he had to lay down on the sick bed, with stomach trouble. Sometimes there was hope of recovery, then, again, it seemed as if he could not live much longer. Even on New Years day he .himself had good hope of getting well again, but it came quite contrary. Thursday night the attacks of pain set in again more fiercely than before, and Friday morning he realized that the end was near, he partook of the holy supper of the Lord. expressed his faith in the Saviour and died quietly shortly before noon, January 8,
With him a kind and loving husband and father, a respected and honored neighbor has gone into eternity; he brought his life to 74 years, 3 months and 6 days. His widow, nine children and 23 grand-children deeply mourn the loss of the father. William Muggenburg was a member of the German Lutheran congregation at Cres6o, Iowa, from its very begining;{sic} he was a true faithful christian, who set a good example in the congregation. He was elected several times as delegate to the Synod meetings, May he rest in peace and may his memory live long in our congregation.
