Obituary.
A tribute to the memory of S. G. Norton, eldest son or Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Norton.
He was born in Cresco, March 23rd, 1888 and died in Decorah, December 8th, l900, aged 12 years 8 months and 13 days.

Thus passes from earth a youth; the hope, the joy and pride of his parents and numerous relatives, and admired by a host of acquaintances and friends. Probably no one of his age in Howard and Winneshiek counties has attracted the attention or become known to so many people as has S. G. Norton. Nearly every one in Cresco and Decorah knew him, and have known him for years. From his infancy he was a lover and admirer of God’s noblest animal creation—the horse—and hundreds of people in our cities have seen him daily on our streets driving his pet pony, “Nemo,” attached to his gay little road wagon. Manly, genial, kind and obliging he secured the respect and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. For years he has been seen at our county fairs and in street parades{portion missing} in Decorah attracting much {portion missing} and comment. His pony {portion missing) and sleek and his road wagon {portion missing) and polished. Nothing seemed to please him more than to give {portion missing} a ride in his “turn-out” and {portion missing} often seen him with from one {portion missing}| chums driving through town {portion missing} as a lark. On his return {portion missing} his drives he made this remark “{portion missing} I believe I am the happiest {portion missing} town.” But the dread summer {portion missing} and he was called home.
His disease, typhoid fever, {portion missing} the skill of his physicians and nurses. When he was taken sick he said (portion missing}shall never get well, I would {portion missing} live to be a great help to him {portion missing} know my pa cannot spare me.
His remains were brought to {portion missing} and interred in Oak Lawn Cemetery by the side of his sisters who preceeded him to “the promised land”.

S. G. NORTON.
Last Friday morning at five o’clock, S. G. Norton, the older son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Norton, died after an illness of three weeks from typhoid fever. The heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Norton and the family in their affliction. Their son was a bright little lad, a favorite among playmates, and was fast developing into a capable assistant to his father in the business in which he was named as a partner. The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the home, Rev. M. Willett officiating, and the remains were taken to Cresco for burial in the family lot.
