Mr. Webber, father of H. J. and E. P. Webber, died Saturday morning the funeral of his wife having been Friday of the same week. Both had been declining for some time and the death of both was expected at any time long before it occurred. They were among the early settlers of the county but we are without data as to any facts pertaining to their history.

Obituary.
Mr. Henry Weber was born in Ober-Relnbach, Bavaria, June 9th, 1822. He was baptized as a little child after the custom of the Lutheran church, attended school for seven years and was continued in his church, where he confessed his Christian faith. When he was 18 years old, he served as soldier in the army of Bavaria for two years. Tired of the hard service of that time he came to America, and worked for a short time in Pittsburg as a carpenter. He moved to Logansberg Indiana afterward, where he married Sarah Lowry. This marriage was blessed with 5 children. The oldest son Charley Hcnry was born in Cincinnati, the other four, John, Edward, Anna and Ida on his farm in Indiana. In 1865 his beloved wife Sarah died shortly after the birth of the youngest child, Ida and two weeks later the baby followed the mother in death. To make the cup of misery full, he too was taken sick with dropsy and was brought to the hospital in Cincinnati, where he had a successful operation. When he had recovered he moved to Iowa in 1867 and settled in Howard Co. near Cresco on the farm. In 1870 he married his second wife, Katharine Reutsche and lived together with her for 30 years. When both were old they moved to town for the rest of their lives. The deceased suffered for a long time from asthma and was often so seriously sick, that nobody expected him to live longer but he always recovered with God’s help. But since spring of this year his health and strength failed more and more and he was laid upon the sickbed, most tenderly cared for by his son Edward. When his wife dies Thursday he knew his time had come too, and Saturday morning God took him away by a gentle death, for he died in the arms of his son Edward. The deceased was 78 years, 4 months and 24 days old. He was a member of the German Lutheran church and lived a true and faithful christian life. His surviving children mourn the loss of a loving father. The funeral occurred Monday Nov. 5th, from the house of Edward Weber, Rev. C. Niedermeier and Rev. Holmes officiating The interment took place in Oaklawn cemetery.Transcriber’s Note: The last name is spelled two different ways; however, the gravestone shows Webber.
