Patrick Roche,
who died April 8, 1900, at his home in Afton, came to this county in 1856, locating upon the farm where he died. He was born in Ireland, coming to the United States several years before locating in this county. He was aged about 90, perhaps a little over that at his death. He was the father of nine children who survive him, three sons and six daughters. Of the very early settlers of that portion of the county we can recall but three, Wm. Roche, a brother of the deceased, John Madden and Patrick Riley, all well advanced in years. The deceased was an honorable, upright man, and left the impress of his character for integrity upon his children, one of which is Wm. H. Roche of Cresco.
