Mavis O. Shaffer, 91, of rural Limes Springs, Iowa left her earthly home for her heavenly home on Sunday, April 22, 2018 surrounded by family at her farm west of Cresco.

Mavis Oriette (Anderson) Shaffer was born September 17, 1926 daughter of Ola J. and Mabel (Foss) Anderson rural Saude IA. She was a lifelong member of the Jerico Evangelical Lutheran Church where she baptized by Rev. H.M. Tjernagel on October 17, 1926 and confirmed in her faith by Rev. Neelak Tjernagel on July 21, 1940. Mavis attended rural schools in Howard County and graduated from Cresco High School in 1945. She then attended Upper Iowa University where she received her teaching degree and taught at rural one room school houses in Chickasaw County. On June 7th, 1948 she was united in marriage to Glenn A. Shaffer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Mavis and Glenn dairy farmed in Howard County purchasing a farm on Highway 9 near Lime Springs in 1959 where she continued to farm until her death. She was an active member of the Jerico Ladies Aide and member of Howard County Farm Bureau for over 50 years.

She is survived by 6 children: Glenna (Tim) Walton of Cresco, Sharon (Jim) Losch of Marion, Daniel Shaffer of Cresco, Pamela (Pat) Byrnes of Cresco, Betty Rowell of Marion and Neil Shaffer of Lime Springs; 5 grandchildren: Mike (Jill) Walton of Cresco, Jami (Jay) Weems of Pleasant Hill, Kevin (Tressa) Walton of Vinton, Kari (Cedrick) Schlecht of Cresco and Nikki (Chris) Shimek of Cresco; 9 great-granddaughters; sister-in-law Doris Williams of Urbandale; brother-in-law Donald Pankow of Parkersburg; several nieces and nephews. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Glenn in 2004; 3 sisters: Orletta Ball, Janice Shaffer and Mabel Pankow; one brother Merlin Anderson.
