Burton Hoffland services held
Funeral services for Burton “Burt” Hoffland of San Bernardino, CA were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4 at Highland Avenue Lutheran Church in San Bernardino.
Burt died Wednesday, February 27, 2002.
Burton LaMoyne Hoffland was born April 20, 1925 in Cresco, the son of John and Olena (Landswerk) Hoffland. His parents farmed in the Saude area and he helped on the farm until his mid-twenties. He was the youngest of five children. He finished high school in Cresco, where he played football and base¬ball. He continued his passion for baseball by pitching for many county league teams.
He joined the Air Force in early 1952. The night before he was to report for duty he met his bride-to- be at his brother Vic’s wedding. He took Eleanor Smith to church the next morning and began a courtship through correspondence.
They were married in Portland, OR on November 22, 1952 at the same church in which they had met. The Air Force moved them to Long Beach and Marysville, CA. In 1956 Burt left the Air Force and settled in San Bernardino.
He is survived by his wife; two- daughters: Ellen Sabie of Palm Springs and Betty Hoffland of Glendora; one grandson; and one brother: Victor J. of Milwaukee, WI.
Burt was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters: Harriett Peterson, Marjorie Bruns, and Edna Hoffland
