Services held far Gertrude Wilson
Funeral services for Gertrude Wilson of Cresco were held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers were: Dana Wilson, Todd Wilson, Bart Wilson, Darin Wilson, Renae Wilson, and Bill Sindelar. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Gertrude, 90, died Thursday, March 14, 2002 at the Regional Health Services Hospital in Cresco.
Gertrude C. Wilson was born August 12, 1911 in Howard County, the daughter of William and Julia (Woods) Wilson. She was a graduate of Cresco High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in 1931. She taught for 12 years in various rural schools in Howard County.
In 1941 she was elected president of the Iowa State Rural Teachers’ Association, which had 8,000 members. In 1942 she moved to Oakland, CA. During the war period, she worked at the munitions factory helping to do her part.
Following the war, she worked as office manager of Gardner Neon and Ignition Transformer Inc. from 1958 until 1973. During this time, she became half owner of this company. From 1973 to 1985, she then worked as office manager for Kelly’s Sporting Goods. She retired in 1985, and moved to Cresco.
She spent many hours doing volunteer work in Oakland, CA. She enjoyed traveling and traveled to every continent, her favorite being the Orient.
She belonged to the Notre Dame Parish Altar and Rosary Society.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Emmett and Floyd.
