Funeral services for Harold Smith of Mabel, MN were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 10 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, MN with Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Canton. Mengis Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Harold, 94, died Friday, October 7, 2002 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Harold A. Smith was born June 22, 1908 in New Oregon Township, Howard County, the son of Henry and Ida (Clark) Smith. He attended country school then graduated from the Cresco High School. He owned and operated Smith Electric in Cresco for several years.
On March 4, 1957 he married Mary Humpal at St. Columban Catholic Church in Preston. After selling the electric business they lived in rural Lanesboro, MN, Preston, and Canton. Harold was a longtime worker in Rushford, MN in the Green Thumb program. He was a resident at the Preston Good Samaritan Center before moving to the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in October 2001.
He was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton and enjoyed playing the piano and saxophone.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Mabel; two step daughters: Irene Harre of Preston, MN and Dorothy Roffman of Postville; 10 step grandchildren; 21 step greatgrandchildren; and 11 step great-great-grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; two brothers; one stepson; and one step greatgrandson.
