Delphine Roman Reicks was born April 17, 1931 in Howard County, just outside of Cresco, the son of Raymond Henry and Mary Ann (Baumler) Reicks. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Jo¬seph’s Catholic Church in Cresco and attended St. Joseph’s grade school. After his schooling, he stayed home to help his family on the farm.
On April 22, 1952 he married Monica Anne Lowe at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. They first lived with his father, Ray, until they started farming on their own. They rented two different farms before purchasing a farm north of Cresco. In 1982 Dell’s health forced him to discontinue farming and move to Cresco.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Worship Center, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Council #1571 of the Knights of Columbus, and the Farm Bureau.
He liked to play cards, family genealogy, and dealing cars. He loved to drive and found he was needed by his Amish friends to take them where they needed to go, which was what he was doing when he suffered the heart attack.
He is survived by his wife Monica; three sons: Tom of Shakopee, MN, Robert of Cresco, and Pat of Cresco; five daughters: Kathleen Tends of Kellogg, MN, Karen Fraser of St. Charles, MO, Jane Fjelstul of Ridgeway, Mary Ludeking of Ridgeway, and Carol Kovarik of Fort Atkinson; 16 grandchildren; one sister: Tarsilla Hyberger of Cresco; and two brothers: Denis D and Nestor, both of Cresco.
Dell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Cleo; and two sisters: Geneva Houdek and Rufina Lickteig.
