Transcribed by Joy MooreSCHLEY — Anita Agnes Opat, 65, Schley, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002 at her home of cancer.
Private Family Services will be held with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Schley. Hugeback's Protivin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Anita was born Aug. 1, 1937 in rural Winneshiek County, the daughter of Edwin and Marie (Mayme) Busta Vrba. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1956. On June 18,1957 she was united in marriage to Raphael Opat at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin. She worked as a telephone operator in Protivin, the Cresco nursing home, the cheese company in Schley and she taught for the Head-Start program. She attended Iowa Lakes Community College, Emmetsburg for two years, studying hotel/motel management and then worked for the Kahler Hotel, Rochester, MN and the Jumers Hotel, Bettendorf. After her husband's death, she returned to Schley where she did daycare and baby-sitting, helped the disabled and was a Hospice volunteer. She enjoyed painting, crafts, talking on the telephone, reading and her cat Dana.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Opat and Dan Opat, both of Schley; two daughters, Julie Opat and Jane Opat, both of Madison, WI and two sisters, Maxine (James) Gleason, Gilbertville and Janice (Bill) Schaufenbuel, Tripoli.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Raphael, in 1976.
