Robert Nolda
ELMA -- Robert Nolda, 77, of Elma, died Monday; December 30, 2002 at his sister's home near Elma of Cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 am Friday, January 3, 2002{sic} at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma with Reverend Edward Bard chaplain for Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Georgia Schmidt will be the organist and will accompany the soloist, Jim Johnson.
Inurmnent with graveside military honors will be in the Saratoga Cemetery. The American Legion Post of Elma will provide military Honors.
Friends may call an hour prior to services.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice on North Iowa.
Robert Daniel Nolda was born September 23, 1925 at Lincoln, NE. He graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1943. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific aboard the USS Bristol. He farmed for many years in the Elma area after his discharge from the Navy.
He served in the Peace Corps in El Salvador voluntarily mentoring modem techniques to a lesser nation. He also served on the Howard County Equity board and was on the Farmers Home Administration Board for a number of years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching nature. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. He occasionally played some tunes on his harmonica, which he learned by ear. He also enjoyed being with his family and visiting with friends and neighbors. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor.
Survivors include his two sisters: Esther (Harold) Blitsch of Versalles, MO and June Roethler of Elma, 1A; one brother Harry (Barb) Nolda of Strawberry Point, IA; sister-in-law Ruth Nolda of Charles City; an uncle Bill (Audrey) Gies of Riceville; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him were his parents; a brother Richard in 1990; a sister Marion Hammond in 2000; and two brothers-in-law Bill Hammond and Jack Roethler.
