Services held for Edward McGee
Funeral services for Edward McGee were held at 10:30 a.m, on Saturday, December 7 at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Honorary pallbearers were: Cecil Ferrie, Vince Neubauer, Bill Steffen, Jerry Haskovec, Gene Daley, and Don Shields. Pallbearers were his daughters: Mary McGee Light, Joan Franklin, Barb Stewart, Kathy Schueler, Monica Newman, and Jane and Jackie McGee. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Edward, 77, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County Hospital in Cresco of congestive heart failure.
Edward Vincent McGee was born December 31, 1924 on a farm outside of Elma, the son of John and Anna (Knippling) McGee. He received his education in Lourdes. He farmed all his working years. He especially loved raising livestock.
On October 13, 1948 he married Alvira Drilling at St. Joseph’s Church in Cresco. They made their home on a farm near Cresco, until 1986 when they moved into town.
He was a member of the Assumption Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed watching baseball and boxing, working in the garden, and riding around the countryside.
He is survived by his children: Mary McGee-Light of Denver, Joan Franklin of Cedar Rapids, Tom of Cresco, Barb Stewart of Watkins, Pat of Cresco, Kathleen Schueler of Hiawatha, Monica Newman of Des Moines, Jane McGee of Hiawatha, Jackie McGee of Hiawatha, and Robert of Libertyville; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers: Raymond of Cresco and Jack of Gilbertville; and three sisters: Cecelia Delaney of Austin, MN, Rita Fleming of Springfield, OR, and Marjorie Wetherell of Rock Island, IL.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife Alvira in 2002; two brothers: Donald and Gerald; and one sister: Marcella Mirci.
