Funeral services for Alvira McGee were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19 at the Asumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers were: Mary McGee Light, Joan Franklin, Barb Stewart, Kathy Schueler, Monica Newman, and Jane and Jackie McGee. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Alvira, 75, died Friday, February 15, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI from complications following surgery.
Alvira Catherine McGee was born December 16, 1926 in Howard County, near Cresco, the daughter of Joseph H. and Geneva (Ahern) Drilling. She received her education in the rural schools, graduated from Cresco High School and graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. She spent her working years as a registered nurse at the
Cresco Hospital.
On October 13, 1948 she married Ed McGee at St. Joseph’s Church in Cresco. They made their home on a farm near Cresco, until they moved into town.
She was a member of the Assumption Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed reading, and working in the garden.
She is survived by her husband Ed; ten children: Mary McGee Light of Denver, Joan Franklin of Cedar Rapids, Tom of Cresco, Barb Stewart of Watkins, Pat of Cresco, Kathy Schueler of Hiawatha, Monica Newman of Des Moines, Jan McGee and Jackie McGee both of Hiawatha, and Bob of Libertyille; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Gerald of Jesup and Orvin of Waterloo.
Alvira was preceded in death by her parents.
