Karen Klatt, 90, Elma
Karen Klatt, 90, of Elma, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at Colonial Manor in Elma of natural causes.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crane Creek, rural Lawler, with Rev. Peter D. Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Crane Creek Cemetery with Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home of Elma in charge of arrangements.
Karen Klatt was born September 8, 1911 at Lawler, Iowa, the daughter of Halvor and Johanna (Haageness) Christenson. She was a 1929 graduate of New Hampton High School, and after her schooling she taught school for two years at country schools near New Hampton. In 1931, she was united in marriage to Elmer Klatt at Crane Creek Lutheran Church. Following their marriage the couple resided in Fredericksburg, Decorah and Alta Vista and owned and operated bakeries. The couple later moved to Cresco. Karen later moved to Minneapolis and worked at the North Star. After retiring, she moved to Elma where she has lived ever since. She enjoyed sewing.
She is survived by three children, Marilyn (Ronald) Duryee of Plainfield, Iowa, Gordon (Martha) Klatt of Perry, Iowa, Lois Klatt of Chicago, 111.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Kettner of Waverly, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gilbert Christenson and Edwin Christenson; two sisters, Ella Nystel and Bertha Samec.
