ALTA VISTA - Marilyn Ann Hentges, 69, Alta Vista, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Alta Vista with Reverend John Hemann officiating. Theresa Burke was the organist and accompanied the soloist Jean Cerwinske, as well as the St. Bernard Mixed Choir. The lector was LaVerne Cerwinske. Nicholas and Michelle Cerwinske presented the offertory gifts. The pall was placed by Marilyn's children.
Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Alta Vista with Marilyn's grandchildren, Jeremy Hentges, Jennifer Hentges, Jill Clearman, Christopher Hentges, Bryan Hentges, Katie Hentges and Ashley Hentges serving as casket bearers.
Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, Elma, where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary and 5 p.m. Scripture Service.
Marilyn Ann Hentges was born Nov. 9, 1932 in Elma, the daughter of Thomas and Bernadette (Shimek) Burke.
She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, Elma in 1949. After her schooling she moved to Minneapolis, where she was employed as a secretary. On July 2, 1952, she was united in marriage to Reynold Hentges at Immaculate Conception Church, Elma. Following their marriage the couple resided in Alta Vista. They moved to Des Moines in 1965, where she worked as an insurance underwriter. The couple returned to Alta Vista after their retirement in 1987. Marilyn served as a librarian in Alta Vista for a number of years. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Hentges, Clinton; two sons, Jerry Hentges, Des Moines and Peter (Gayle) Hentges, Clinton; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte (Joe) Kuhn, Corpus Christy, TX, Betty (Duane) Vicary, Ft. Collins, CO and Jean (LaVerne) Cerwinske, Alta Vista; a brother, Tom (Joann) Burke, Kendalville, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Reynold, in 1995 and a daughter, Jayne Hentges.
