HUMBOLDT - Alvina E. Hansen, 82, Humboldt, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002 at the Humboldt North Care Center of natural causes.
Funeral Services were held 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Oak Hill Baptist Church, Humboldt with Rev. Richard Lauger presiding. Music was provided by the church organist as the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". A soloist sang "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" accompanied by the organist.
Burial was in Union Cemetery, Humboldt with her grandsons and grandson-in-law Tom Curry, David Helland, Nicholas Johnson, Kristopher Curry, Paul Helland and Dan Shiflett as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters Candy Shiflett, Lauri Konneus, Lisha Curry, Lynnette Watnem, Renee Dunphy and Carmen Dunphy.
visitation was 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home, Humboldt and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Alvina Edna Hansen was born June 21, 1919 in Fayette County, the daughter of Leonard and Rosena (Schweinefus) Torkelson. She received her education at Ossian, Postville and Howard County, Cresco. Following her marriage to Kenneth Bronner they farmed near Cresco until moving to New Hampton. She was employed as a waitress at Little Butch's Sudden Service before moving to Humboldt in 1963. In 1965 she was united in marriage to Elwood Hansen. They made their home on a farm until moving into Humboldt in 1977. She became a resident of Humboldt North Care Center in 1996. She was an active member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church serving as a Bible Study Leader, Sunday School Superintendent and Co-Chairperson of the White Cross Quilting projects. She en-joyed reading, crocheting, gardening and visiting her families.
Survivors include three daughters, Kay (Cliff) Helland, Bode, Judy Johnson, Humboldt and Gayleen (George) Dunphy, Livermore; nine grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Clarion (Marie) Torkelson, New Hampton and one sister, Arlene Samec, New Hampton.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Elwood, in 1982.
