Ruth Gooder, 84, services to be held
Funeral services for Ruth Gooder will be held at 12:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, February 20 at St. Joseph’s Worship Center with Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers were: Patrick, Michael, Gary, and Lee Gooder, Gay Gooder Duroe and Billie Jo Gooder Lucas. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Ruth, 84, died Friday, February 15, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home, where she moved after she could no longer care for herself at the Howard County Residential Care Facility.
Ruth Cecelia Gooder was born November 23, 1917 in Howard County, near Cresco, the of William and Mary (Schneider) Slifka. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and Cresco High School.
In 1933 she married Niles Gooder, they were later divorced. For over 30 years, she ran the lunch stand at the Cresco Sale Barn. Later she worked for Ross as a bookkeeper-receptionist in the Sport Hut in Cresco.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.
Ruth liked to play cards, crochet rugs, and fishing.
She is survived by two sons: Don of Cresco and Ross of Strawberry, AZ; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Loretta Armstrong of Springdale, AR and Elsie Murphy of Chester.
Ruth was preceded in death by one grandson; her parents; two brothers: Al and Leonard; and an infant sister: Lucy.
