Funeral services for Irene Folsom were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8, at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco with Rev. David Fye of Fredericksburg officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers were: Art Bina, Jerry Bina, Michael Goffron, Leonard Fravel, Jeff Anderson, and Kenneth Zikuda. Honorary pallbearers were: Dennis Johnson, Elmer Benson, Andrew Goffron, Dr. Dean Noblett, Prof. David Noblett, and Prof. Duane Noblett.
Irene, 74, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
Irene M. Folsom was born July 21, 1927 in New Oregon Township near Cresco, the daughter of Theodore and Mabel (Fye) Aberg. Irene attended Vernon Springs #3 rural school and graduated from Cresco High School in 1944. She taught school for 30 years and many summers. She taught remedial math and reading at Cresco Junior High. Irene tutored many neighborhood and surrounding area students.
On June 17, 1947 she married Jerry Valvoda who died in 1978. Later she married Lyle Houdek. This ended in divorce in 1987. In 1997, she married Roland Folsom.
She liked to collect jewelry, cookie jars, and cat figurines.
She is survived by her husband Roland of Cresco; and two sisters: Gladys Goffron of Chicago, IL and Dorothy Zikuda of Waterloo.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Donald and Leland.
