Services held for Robert Cowles, 77
Funeral services for Robert Cowles formerly of Lamont, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at Grace United Methodist Church at Lamont with Rev. Dwight Webster officiating. Interment was in Campton-Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were : Kevin Popham, Jeremy Popham, Marty Seedorff, Ryan Cowles, Jonathan Nierling, Jesus Garcia, Jason Elledge, and Frank Egloff. Fawcett Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Robert, 77, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 in University Hospital in Iowa City, following a short illness.
Robert B. Cowles was born April 5, 1925 at Lamont, the son of A.O. and Mary (Haskins) Cowles. He graduated from Lamont High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army on July 28, 1943 serving in Central Europe during WWII until his discharge on November 27, 1945.
On May 18, 1946 he married Velma Hill at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked with his father at the A.O. Cowles Produce in Lamont for a few years, then at Wilson’s in Cedar Rapids and last worked for the Iowa DOT. Velma died on May 25, 1987 at Lamont. Robert married Delores Magirl on June 11, 1988 at Cresco. They made their home in Cresco.
Robert was a member of the Lamont American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Delores of Cresco; one son: Dennis of Iowa City, two daughters: Jane Seedorff of Lamont and Lynette West of Lamont; step daughter: Carol Nierling of Columbia, MO; and step son: Ronald of Cresco; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother: Dey of Sheboygan, WI.
Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma; two infant children: Kevin and Janette; and his parents.
