Services held for Hildegard Gehling on February 9

Funeral services for Hildegard Gehling of Cresco were held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9 at St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling, her son, officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. The pall was placed by the children. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Hildegard. 91, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Hildegard Mary Gehling was born August 14, 1910 near Festina, the daughter of Bernard and Rose (Tekippe) Hageman. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. She attended school at St. Mary’s School in Festina and returned home to help with the household chores.
On May 25, 1935 she married Gregory C. Gehling in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church at Festina. They made their home in the Calmar area, moving to the Cresco area in 1941. They retired from the farm and moved into Cresco in October of 1968.
She was always active, she belonged to various clubs holding many offices. She was one of the founders of the St. Gerard's Club, and was 50 plus years as a member of the Farm Bureau.
She liked playing cards, reading, gardening, crocheting, and working with tele-concern.
She is survived by her children: Rev. Kenneth Gehling chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Gerald of Albert Lea, MN, Vincent of Cresco, James of Cedar Rapids, Sister Patricia SSND, Principal at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School in Phoenix, AZ, and Connie Frana of Ridgeway; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Regina Bruening of Decorah.
Hildegard was preceded in death by her husband Gregory on April 21, 1978; by her parents; one brother: Frank; and two sisters: Emma Gehling and Sister Carolyn Hageman.
