Funeral services for Leone Ernst were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco with Rev. Robert Hupp officiating. Pallbearers were her granddaughters: Lori Truka, Suzanne Smith, Gayleen Moellers, Lisa Bina, Trisha Johnston, Melissa Bigalk, and Allyson Jasper. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Leone, 83, died Friday, May 3, 2002.
Leone Lydia Ernst was born March 22, 1919 near Sumner, the daughter of Ernest and Anna Ladwig. She was baptized in the Methodist Church. In 1936 she graduated from Ridgeway High School.
On February 3, 1939 she married Arnold Ernst at her mother’s farm near Ridgeway. They farmed most of their life and when they retired from farming, Leone drove a school bus for Howard-Winneshiek School District for several years.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed being outside caring for her garden and lawn. She also enjoyed traveling, fishing, sewing, quilting, and cooking.
She is survived by four daughters: Sandra Peter, Linda Bigalk, Helen Schmauss, all of Cresco and Nancy Jasper of Birkenfeld, OR; seven granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; one sister: Marion Symonds of Decorah; and one brother: Elmer Ladwig of Cresco.
Leone was preceded in death by her husband Arnold; her parents; one sister: Arlene Rider; and one brother: Arlis Ladwig.
