MITSON.In Canton, Minn., April 8, 1899, Elder Peter Mitson, aged 78 years 2 months and 24 days.
In 1856 he preempted 160 acres of land in Paris township, near Sturgis point and in the neighborhood of the Merry and Hoyt farms of that day. He left the county some twenty years or more since, locating in Canton township, Fillmore county, on the State line. He will be favorably remembered by the early settlers who we find are being rapidly thined{sic} out from deaths and removals.Source: Decorah Republican Apr. 13, 1899 P 3 C 4
Mr. Peter Mitson, the aged father of Mrs. P. A. Masters, died last Saturday at Canton, after an illness of some duration. The particulars of his life will be found in the proper column.

Elder Peter Mitson, aged 78 years, 2 months, 24 days.
Peter Mitson was born in Suffolk county, England. When 15 years old he come to Quebec, Canada, In 1842 when 21 years old he enlisted in the United States navy and served three years on the U. S. man-of-war Colombia. After his discharge in 1845 he returned to Canada where, on the 23d of January, 1846, he was married to Miss Isabel Adams, who survives him. To them were born three sons, Bowman, Horace and Charles, and four daughters, Rhoda, (now Mrs. Wm. Goldsworthy,) Sarah, (Mrs. Jesse Bench,) Mary, (Mrs. Chas, Miller,) and Cora, (Mrs. Frank Masters.) In 1850 he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Advent church. Soon after he began to preach; the following year was ordained to the Gospel ministry and though supporting his family principally by farming he continued to preach till failing health prevented. In 1856 he came to Iowa and preempted 160 acres of land in Howard county. In 1866 he moved onto a farm bordering the state line in Canton township, Minn., where he lived till three years ago, when, as a result of failing health he rented his farm and moved to Burr Oak. About a year ago he moved to Canton, that he might be where his children could better look after him in his sickness.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. church of Canton, conducted by Elder J. Ridley, of Burr Oak.Transcriber's Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Elliota Cemetery in Canton, MN.
