Francis Walton services held
Funeral services for Francis Walton of Cresco were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 12 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco with spring burial in the New Oregon Cemetery. The Rev. Gary K. Lee, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Cresco presided. Pallbearers were his sons-in-law: Pat McGee, Mike Heimer, Francis Monthy and grandsons: Don Youngblut, Jamie Prouty, and Francis Monthy Jr. Honorary pallbearers were: Melvin Ott, John Busta, Gary Murray, Merlin Kratz, Arnold Skoda, Richard Jirak, Emmett Borseth, George Milbrath, Lawrence Peters, Roger Halverson, Eldred Rethamel, and Gilbert Pecinovsky.
Francis, 75, died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Francis E. Walton was born May 20, 1925 in Winneshiek County, near Cresco, the son of John and Vera (Burgess) Walton. He attended the rural school near his home and Cresco High School for two years. He later entered the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and the Phillippines. After his honorable discharge from the service, he was employed by Art Eischeid’s Creamery and in 1949 was employed as a lineman for Hawkeye Tri-County REC in Cresco until retiring in 1987.
On August 5, 1950 he married Rita Hovey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Francis enjoyed working outside, gardening, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include his wife Rita; two sons: David and Donald of Cresco; six daughters: Barbara Trouten of Nashville, TN, Linda Walton of Waterloo, Mary Lee Heimer of Rochester, MN, Julie Monthy and Becky McGee both of Cresco, and Susan Pierce of North Augusta, SC; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister: Emma Jean McGee of Waterloo.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; and one brother: Robert.
