PROTIVIN - Joseph R. Prochaska, 88, Protivin, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at the Evans Memorial Home, in Cresco of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin, with Rev. John Moser presiding. Marlene Pecinovsky will be organist, accompanying the Holy Trinity Choir.
Interment is in Holy Trinity Cemetery with the Protivin Fire Department serving as active and honorary pallbearers.
Friends may call from 3- 9 p.m. Friday, June 15 at Hugeback’s Protivin Funeral Home, Protivin, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. parish Scripture Service.
Joseph was born June 13, 1913 southwest of Protivin in rural Chickasaw County, the son of Joseph J. and Mayme (Fisher) Prochaska. He attended school in Protivin and graduated from high school in 1932. On June 8, 1936, he married Wilma Kalishek at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin. Joseph was a well-known northeast Iowa businessman for over 60 years, operating a restaurant and tavern in Protivin. He was the Protivin Fire Chief for 25 years and had been leader of the town band where he played the trumpet. Joseph was a lifelong member of the Catholic Workman, a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; one daughter, Mary Prochaska-Richardson (Dennis), Cedar Rapids; two sons, Bill (Janet) Prochaska, Fayette and Jim (Lois) Prochaska, Dubuque; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Mikesh, Hopkins, MN and Marie Henry, Minnetonka, MN.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Jane Prochaska-Haines; a brother, Clarence Prochaska.
