Isabel (Lauck) Pietan, 70, of Elma, died Saturday, January 13, 2001 at her home after an extended illness.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 16, at St. Paul's Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, rural Elma, with Rev. Myrwood A. Bagne presiding. Interment will be in the Howard Cemetery in Elma with Conway Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Isabel was born September 17, 1930 on a farm northeast of Elma, the daughter of Albert and Dora (Schlesing) Lauck. She was baptized October 12, 1930 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 23, 1944 at St. Paul's Maple Leaf Church. She attended the rural school and was a 1948 graduate of Elma High School. She also graduated from La James College of Cosmetology in Mason City and worked in a beauty salon in Charles City until her marriage. Isabel was married to Harlin E. Pietan October 18, 1950 at St. Paul's Maple Leaf Lutheran Church. Together, they farmed the farm where Isabel was born until moving to Elma in 1991.
Isabel was a member of St. Paul's Church and the W.E.L.C.A. She enjoyed making kolaches and cookies, quilting, doing crafts and working in the yard. But her greatest love was her family and friends. Grandma "Bell" loved doing things with her grandchildren. Isabel is survived by her husband, Harlin; three sons, Robert and wife Debi of Viroqua, Wise., Mark of Elma, and Glen and wife Lisa of Elma; ten grandchildren: Tina, Jacki, Amy, Kari, Elizabeth, Edward, Emily, Drew, Emmitt and Michael; one sister, Alice Lichman of Mason City; her mother-in-law, Alma Pietan, of New Hampton; a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Vic) Lansing of Stewartville, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Edward Pietan; and her daughter-in-law, Chris Pietan.
