Funeral services for Nellieve Peckosh of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31 at the St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco. Interment was in Mayflower Cemetery in Oxford Junction. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.Nellieve, 94, died Sunday, October 28, 2001 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
Nellieve Peckosh was born January 30, 1907 in Jones County, the daughter of Fred and Vera (Wood) Rorah. She graduated from Marion High School in Marion in 1925. She attended college in Cedar Falls and taught school for one year. She then attended Burnham’s School of Beauty Culture in Chicago, returned and managed the Killian’s Beauty Salon in Cedar Rapids.
On October 1, 1936 she married Lumir J. Peckosh at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. In 1938 they moved to Cresco where Lumir had opened the Peckosh Funeral Home. In November of 1941, they adopted a son John Michael. She managed the household chores and assisted her husband in the funeral home. On September 1, 1968, they sold the funeral home. They moved from the funeral home into a private residence where she lived until entering the nursing home.
Nellieve was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Nellieve was preceded in death by her husband Lumir in 1989; one son, John in October 1968; and her parents.
