ELMA- Hattie Miller, 87, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City of natural causes.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 8 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Elma with Reverend Maurice Lind officiating. Konnie Schmidt was the organist and accompanied those in attendance singing "Amazing Grace", "I Am But A Stranger Here", "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me". Hattie's granddaughters placed the pall.
Burial was in Howard Cemetery, Elma with Keith Miller, Craig Miller, David Bill, Bobby Bill, Paul Arndt and DuWayne Miller serving as casket bearers.
Visitation was from 2 to 6 .m. Sunday, Jan. 7 at Conway uneral Home, Elma and also an hour prior to services at the church.
Hattie Florence Miller was born July 23, 1913 on the family farm in Howard County, the daughter of Crist and Minnie (Flugge) Muller. She received her education in a country school through eighth grade. She married Arno Miller on May 6, 1937 in Zion Lutheran Church, Alta Vista. They farmed until 1973 when they moved into Elma. Hattie moved into the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 1999. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and making quilts tor ner family.
Survivors include a son, Leslie (Margaret) Miller, Elma and a daughter Lucille (Richard) Bill, New Hampton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Schreiber, Maple Grove, MN, Esther Owens, Cedar Falls and Rose Ross, Nora Springs and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; stepfather, Frank Arndt; four brothers, Carl Arndt, Leo Arndt and two stillborn; two sisters, Mamie Embertson and Verna Otteson.
