A Mass of Christian Burial for Isabel Henry was held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco with Rev, Henry W. Charipar officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers were: Todd Henry, Mike Walton, Shawn J. Henry, Darren Riehle, Greg Gerlach, and Steve McCormick. French and Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Isabel, 92, died Monday, October 1, 2001 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI following a lengthy illness.
Isabel Mary Henry was born July 18, 1909 near Bridgewater, SD, the daughter of James and Ann (Welbes) McCormick. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Bridgewater. Isabel attended parochial grade school and graduated from Bridgewater-Salem High School in 1927. After high school she worked for Dr. Welbes and while visiting relatives in Iowa, she met Herbert Henry her future husband of 50 years.
On February 14, 1938 she married Herbert J. Henry at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. They farmed near the Bluffton area until they retired and moved to Cresco in 1970.
She enjoyed dancing, playing the piano and the organ, reading and sewing. She was an accomplished cook and baker and loved her flowers. Isabel was also an avid walker, walking well into her 80s. Isabel was a former member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton where she enjoyed working with her church circle. She also held offices with the Rosary Society and was active in the ACCW. She was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Reinhart of Ridgeway, Marjorie Sovey of Oro Valley, AZ, and Mary Jane Henry of St. Paul, MN; one son: Joe J. of Ridgeway; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister: Rose Reif of Salem, SD.
