Marlys Hoppie-Midthus, 79 of Cresco, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Accura Healthcare of Cresco.
Marlys was born on July 16, 1938 in Cresco, Iowa to Fred and Luella (Schultz) Hoppie. Following graduation from Cresco High School, Marlys worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for two years. After that she moved back to Cresco and worked at Hoiness Drug Store. She first married Lawrence Gunderson. To this union four daughters were born. They later divorced. She then married Arlin Midthus on January 27, 2004.
Following high school she kept in tough with her friends with their monthly coffee group that started right after High School and continued on even after she moved to the Hawkeye Care Center.
Marlys worked at Cresco Machine Co. for 37 years. Over the years Marlys enjoyed doing needlepoint and craftwork, she owned Grandma Annie’s Crafts in Cresco for seven years. Her love of fishing took her and her cousin Larry Denner to Lake of the Woods in Canada on two fishing trips. Marlys loved to dance and cook; her specialty was fruit soup.
Marlys is survived by her husband, Arlin of Cresco, Iowa, four daughters, Tammi (Arlyn) Skoda of Cresco, Iowa, Vicki (Robbie Howard) Disney of Des Moines, Iowa, Cindi (Jeff) Kath of Cresco, Iowa, and Terri (Craig) Cotant of Cresco, Iowa, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a sister Madonna Storlie, a sister-in-law LaVonne Donlan, and a brother-in-law Larry (Deb) Midthus.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Lawrence “Larry” Gunderson.
