LaVerna Leeps of Cresco, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017at Country Winds Manor.
Funeral services for LaVerna will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Cresco United Methodist Church in Cresco, IA with Rev. Kayla Lange officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
LaVerna was born on August 28, 1934 to Harry and Mae Collins in Sheffield, Iowa. LaVerna attended elementary and high school in Chapin, Iowa. Upon graduation, she attended business school at American Institute of Business in Des Moines taking a secretary course. While attending business school, she met Gentry, and was married on October 25, 1953 in the Methodist Chapel in Des Moines, Iowa. They moved to Atlantic, Iowa where Gentry started working for the Ford Motor Company. From Atlantic, Iowa they moved to Sheffield, Iowa for a year and then to Cresco where they raised their family of 6 children; Warren (Vali) Leeps, Calvin (Monica) Leeps, Teresa (Gary) Kabrud, Linda (Joe) McGee, Jeffrey Leeps and Donald (DeAnn) Leeps.
LaVerna worked part time as a cashier for Cresco IGA and then was hired full time as a receptionist and cashier for Peoples Natural Gas for over 24 years.
LaVerna was active member of the First United Methodist Church, Wa Tan Ye, American Legion Auxiliary and league bowling. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading books, long walks, bike rides and having the grandchildren spend their summer vacations with swimming lessons and camping.
LaVerna is survived by her husband, Gentry, their 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and her brothers Kenny (Michelle) Collins and Dennis (Cindy) Collins.
LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Doris Greimann.
