Our community was saddened yesterday by the news of the death of Miss Gertrude Smith. Gertie was an example of industry and a wide-awake Christian worker, and her bright, cheerful ways will be missed by all who knew her. The family have the sympathy of all in this, their second sad bereavement in a little more than a year. May they be sustained in their time of trouble by the kind Heavenly Father, whom Gertie loved.Iowa Plain Dealer December 14, 1897, LP, C5
