Obituary.
Eliza Cowal was born in Smarden, county of Kent, England, in November, 1813. Was married to Thomas Gray in 1830.
In 1831 they emigrated to America and resided in New York state until 1852, when they removed to Elgin, Ill., where they made their home for four years. In 1856 they settled in Howard county, Iowa, where they resided up to the time of their death.
Mr. Gray died in Gctober{sic}, 1867. Mrs. Gray died at Independence Nov. 17, 1897. She was brought to Cresco and buried in New Oregon cemetery. The funeral was held at the home of her son Charles Gray.
She leaves two sons—George and Charles, and three daughters—Mrs. Elizabeth A. Offen, Mrs. Zylpha Huckins and Mrs. Sarah M. Huckins, to mourn the loss of their mother.
Mrs. Gray was the mother of thirteen children, five of whom are still living.
