DIED.
SMITH.—In Howard Center township, June 4, 1897, Barbara Smith, aged 73 years and 25 days.
The deceased was born on the Shetland Islands on the 10th of May 1824. Her maiden name was Barbara Youngclause. At the age of 12 she united with the Presbyterian church of which she ever since had been a consistent member. In 1858 she was united in marriage with Malcolm Smith who survives her. In 1859 they removed to the United States, first locating in Rock county, Wisconsin, removing to Iowa in 1870, and locating upon the farm where she died. Three children born to them survive to mourn the death of a good and affectionate mother, viz: Mrs. Elizabeth Wells, Mrs. Jennie Haven and a son James Smith. Four grand-children have been born to mourn the death of a loving grand mother. The funeral was from the house Sunday, after which, all that was earthly of the wife and mother was laid to eternal rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
