Died.
VAN SLYKE—At Cresco, Iowa, Friday, Nov. 20, 1896, Mrs. Harriet Van Slyke, aged 71 years, 5 months and 22 days.
Miss Harriet Morton was born in New York state April 28, 1825, and was married to Mr. H. Chapman, Oct, 10, 1849.
Nine children came to bless this union, six of whom survive. All of whom reside in New York, with the exception of Mr. Frank Chapman, whose home is in Cresco.
After the death of her husband Mrs. Chapman came to Howard county in the spring of ’69, and married Samuel Van Slyke, June 12, 1872. Their home has since been in Howard county and for the past nineteen years in Cresco.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Shaffer, assisted by Rev. Ridlington and the church choir. Besides members of the family, neighbors and friends, a large number of relatives and friends from Saratoga, Elma and Riceville followed the remains to their final resting place at Oak Lawn.
