Clara, daughter of J. H. and Mary Smith, died yesterday morning at their home north of Cresco, and will be buried tomorrow from the Catholic church. Obituary later.

DIED.
HALSTEAD.—AT the home of her parents four miles north-east of Cresco, Monday morning, Sept. 2lst 1896, after a lingering and painful illness, Mrs. Clara R., wife of Wm. E. Halstead, in the 34th year of her age. Deceased was born in Decorah, Winneshiek county, Iowa, Dec. 25th 1861. In 1863 her parents moved to Howard county, where they have lived ever since.
She will be remembered as one of Howard counties best teachers where she has taught about twenty- three terms of school. She was united in marriage to Mr. Halstead, Nov. 27. 1890. She leaves her husband and two small children, her father, three brothers and a sister to mourn her untimely loss. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church, and her remains were placed to rest in St. Joseph’s cemetery Wednesday, Sept, 23, 1890.
