The funeral sermon of Mrs. O. S. Van Leuven was delivered by Rev. J. H, Bowder at the Presbyterian church last Sabbath morning to a large congregation. Her death, from consumption, took place the preceding Sunday at 10 a. m., and she was laid to rest on the following Wednesday by the side of her husband in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Miss Arvilla Miller was born in 1864 at McGregor and came to this county with her mother when a very young child, her father having died when she was but two years of age. Being left an orphan at the tender age of ten years by the death of her mother, she made her home with her uncle, S, A. Miller of this place. Seventeen years ago she was married to O. S. Van Leuven. For about four years, she has been a widow, striving to gain a livelihood for herself and three young children till within the past year, when she has been unable to leave her room.
She leaves, besides her children, a brother at Maquoketa, a sister at Austin, Minn., a half-sister, Mrs. D. Frisbie, of this place, and a host of other relatives and friends who sincerely bemoan the loss of one so good and kind, ever deserving the love and respect of all who knew her.
