Zelma M. Peterson, 90, of Iowa Falls passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Zelma was born on July 21, 1922 in Cresco, Iowa to Haswell A. and Gertrude R. (Specht) Rucker. She was a graduate of Cresco High School in 1939. On November 2, 1941, Zelma was united in marriage to Willard J. Peterson at her parents’ home. To this union three children were born. She was a telephone operator. Zelma and her husband farmed north of Cresco until 1977 when they moved into Cresco. In April of 2008 Willard and Zelma moved to Iowa Falls. She was active in her church, taught Sunday school and participated in women’s circles. She was a 4-H leader, member of 20th Century Federated Women’s Club in Cresco, and always helped organize class reunions. Zelma loved to remember friends’ and relatives’ birthdays with cards and phone calls. Zelma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. She loved spending time with family and was especially proud of their grandchildren. She enjoyed square dancing, creating pine needle baskets, cooking, sewing, baking, vegetable and flower gardening, crocheting, camping, and wintering in Florida. She is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years Willard of Iowa Falls; three children: Gayle (Eldon) Rahmiller of Iowa Falls, Karen (Keith) Krueger of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Steven (Gui Rong) Peterson of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and grandchildren: Ryan (Amanda) Rahmiller of Charles City, Iowa, Sean Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona, Lindsay Krueger of Durham, North Carolina, Brad (Tammy) Rahmiller of Marshalltown, Iowa, Erin Peterson of Glenwood, Iowa, Tyler (Ariana) Krueger of Grimes, Iowa, and Jiao Chen of Ewa Beach, Hawaii. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Wicks of Farmville, Virginia, and a brother, Al (Marlys) Rucker of Sheridan, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
