Arnold “Arnie” D. Blaser, age 79, of Cresco, Iowa died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco. Arnold Dale Blaser was born on March 14, 1934 on the family farm south of Cresco to Christ and Florence (Lewis) Blaser. He attended rural country schools in Howard County. Arnie was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed and on September 30, 1954 was married to Perry Robinson. When he was first married, he and Perry lived in Riceville and Arnie worked for the Oliver Company in Charles City. In 1955 they started farming northeast of Cresco where they raised livestock, maintained a dairy herd and raised crops for 58 years; last fall Arnie and Perry both harvested their last crops. Arnie collected and restored John Deere, Oliver and International Harvester tractors; he and his family drove them in many local parades. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, including Antelope hunting in Wyoming. Arnie always liked to listen to Polka music on Saturday mornings. He was a member of the Historical Society and was a past director of the Winneshiek County Soil Conservation Board. Arnie is survived by his wife, Perry of Cresco; four children, Bruce (Judy) Blaser of Cresco, Dale (friend Marsha Nagel) Blaser of Cresco, Judy (Cliff) Carolan of Cresco and Deanna Heimerdinger of Cresco; twelve grandchildren, Carly Heimerdinger, Kenedy Heimerdinger, Brian Lepa, Samuel Lepa, Curtis Ryan, Elizabeth Thomsen, Rebecca Conlin, Steven Blaser, Sarah Brown, Laura Ryan, Matthew Sorsen and Michael Sorsen; and six great-grandchildren. Arnie is preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Vera Bauer, Marvin “Jake” Blaser, Marjorie Bauer, Mildred Vobr, Janet Peters and Mary Ann Vobr.
