Charlene “Char” E. Haugland-Knoke age 86, of Cresco, IA, died Monday, August 13, 2012, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21, at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Cresco, with Pastor Michael Carey officiating. Burial will be at New Oregon Cemetery, Cresco. Friends may call from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. Charlene was born November 3, 1925 in Independence, IA, the daughter of Charles and Edna (Butler) Cavanaugh. She graduated from Independence High School in 1943, after which she worked as a secretary for Oliver – Greenley, a lumberyard and grain elevator in Independence. On September 1, 1946 she married Jordan E. Haugland in the First Baptist Church in Independence. IA. They started farming in 1948 near Burr Oak, Iowa. In 1962 they moved to a farm south of Cresco. In 1964 they moved to the city of Cresco where she worked for the J.C. Penny Store and Catalog Center in Cresco, later she and Jordan purchased the Sears Merchant Store. Jordan preceded her in death on December 31, 1996. On May 24, 1998 she married George Knoke, he preceded her in death on August 3, 2007. Charlene was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post # 4561 and various other services clubs and her church. Some of which she served as an officer. She enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, crocheting, growing flowers and camping. She is survived by three children, Linda (Richard) Schorr of Cresco, Loren (Shirley) Haugland of New Hampton and LeRoy Haugland of Cresco; three step-children, Janice (Marvin “Butch”) Bergmann of Bluffton, Ron Knoke of Burlington, IA and Terry (Kristine) Knoke of Nauvoo, IL; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and both husbands, Jordan and George. Honorary casket bearers are Sherri Torres, Angel Schwickerath and Scott Burke. Casket bearers are Lori Kyle, Chad Schorr, Michaela Haugland, Matthew Haugland, Kohen Burke and Logan Burke
