A Tragic Event.
Riceville Recorder: — Another fatal accident was added yesterday to the sad events of the year. Two sides were contesting to see which could get the most game, the losers to pay for an oyster supper. In the forenoon all went well, but in the afternoon as a load of hunters were going from Tom Burke’s field into the road on the hill by the cemetery south of town, the sleigh runner went into a ditch and the side board, on which four of the men were sitting, gave way, throwing four of them out and in some way Earnie Foster’s gun was discharged, the load taking effect in the head just behind the right ear, resulting in instant death.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows an Ernest Foster buried in Riverside Cemetery. He was born March 31, 1869 and died Dec. 4, 1895.
His name in the first account was shown as Thomas.
