Edwin Picket after a long and tedious illness breathed his last Oct. 9, at 11:30 o’clock His remains was taken to Minnesota for interment, beside his first wife. He was past 80 years of age. Alvin West a near neighbor and intimate friend of Mr. Picket who had visited him very often during his long illness expressed a wish that they might journey together to the better land. As if in response to his wish he was taken ill a short time before, Mr. Pickets demise, and died Oct.15th aged 81 years and 11 mouths.

Alvin West was born in Orange Co., Vt. in 1811. Ho was married in 1838 to Miss Lucia Waterman. He moved to Janesville, Wis., in 1843, where he lived a few years. He built the first house in Stoughton, Wisconsin, and also kept the first hotel at that place. His wife died in 1853. They had two children, both now dead. The wife that survives him is a native of Canada and they were married in 1856. They removed to Forestville, Minn., the same year and engaged in farming. He was town clerk and assessor 22 years and treasurer 18 years.

He came to Saratoga 13 years ago and purchased the farm formerly owned by Asaph Tuttle where he has since lived. He was a kind and obliging neighbor. He always had a cheerful word for young and old.

He leaves a wife and three children Fred A., who lives on the home farm, Mrs. Charles Picket, and Mrs. Fannie E. Gill.
