Thomas W. Andresen, 80, of Cresco, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 24th at the Howard County Regional Heath Services in Cresco from a stroke.
Tom was born May 22, 1931 in Wayne, Nebraska. The son of William and Christine (Weber) Andresen. Tom graduated from Lyons High School in Lyons, Nebraska in 1949. After High School Tom taught country school in Nebraska and attended Wayne University. He then entered the Air Force and was a payroll clerk while serving his country during the Korean War. After leaving the Air Force he then attended linotype school in Charles City, Iowa. After linotype school, Tom got his first job in the newspaper business with the Times Plain Dealer in Cresco. Tom worked for the Times for 20 years. Shortly after moving to Cresco, Tom also met Evelyn (Hron) Courtney and in 1969 they were married at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. While Tom worked in the newspaper business he also was engaged in Dairy Farming with his wife Evelyn and family. He eventually went to work for the Cresco Shopper and worked for them for 10 years. He and Evelyn retired their dairy herd business in 1993 and in 1995 they retired from farming. Tom started working part time at H and S Motors in Cresco in 1995, retiring in 2010.He was involved with many activities in the community of Cresco. He was CCD teacher for Assumption Catholic Church for many years, served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister. Tom was also a 4H Leader and served on the Howard County Dairy Council. In 1992 Tom and Evelyn were awarded Howard County Distinguished Dairy Family of the Year.
Tom loved to fish when he had time, but most of all loved his family, grandchildren and great grand children. Tom was also a great lover of all animals and had many pets through the years.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn, one son Tim Courtney of Cresco, a daughter Judy Courtney (Eric) Thorson of Waterloo, one daughter in law Tammy Courtney of Cresco, one brother William "Bill" (Alice) Andresen of St. Joseph, Missouri, six grand children Cody (Danielle) Courtney, Cyle (Adrianne) Courtney, Cari (Evan) Carman, Angela Courtney, Cheyann Courtney, all of Cresco and Danielle Christopher of Bluffton. Four great grand children, Carter, Chloe, Brinley and Kaden Courtney of Cresco. Tom is also survived by one nephew, Thomas Andresen of Overland Park, Kansas, and three nieces Christine Andresen of Denver, Colorado, Theresa Andresen Griener and Katherine Andresen Davis both of St. Joseph, Missouri.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents William and Christine Andresen and most recently by one son, Danny Courtney of Cresco.Memorials:

Visitation will be at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco from 4:00pm-8:00pm on Wednesday, July 27th with Scripture Service at 8:00pm and time of remembrance to follow. Visitation will also be one hour before the funeral service at the church.Service:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 28th at 11:00am at Notre Dame Parish followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.Source: Lindstrom Funeral Home database
