Jimmie Ward, 83, of Cresco, IA passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.

Jimmie "Jim" Brooks Ward was born in Burr Oak, IA on March 6, 1928. He was the second of four sons born to Walter Sr. and Margaret (Rice) Ward. As a child he experienced the difficult times and hard work that was commonplace with farm life in the 1930's. It was during those years that he learned the values of hard work, strength of character and self-discipline.

A short time after meeting Jim and "Valli" Galilejeus were married on May 16, 1950. They settled in Cresco and soon thereafter started a family. Jim worked for the Farmer's Co-Op creamery and enjoyed his years of experience and the many friendships he developed while first providing delivery service to the community through eventual management of the Wisconsin Dairies plant.

After Jim's first wife Valli's death, he was blessed to re-unite with a childhood friend Doris Hubka and the two were eventually married. The children from both families quickly formed one large extended family and Doris and Jim gave each other strength, companionship and love during recent years while enduring some serious health problems.

Jim was well known and liked for his devotion to work and family, his sharp sense of humor, and his ability to make friends with anyone and his willingness to help others in need at any time. He could fix anything and was always a man of his word. His children will always chuckle at his wit, admire his intelligence and skill and be grateful for his love and fatherly guidance.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Doris of Cresco, IA, three sons, Michael (Bonni) of Hesper, IA, Larry (Maureen) of St. Louis Park, MN, Jimmie M. of Cresco, IA, and one daughter Renae (Charlie) of Portland, OR, three stepchildren, Joyce (Jed) Becker of Cresco, IA, Ruth (Fred) Hopkins of Kansas City, KS, Dave (Janela) Hubka of Rochester, MN, five grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Margaret Ward, his first wife, Valli, a niece Lori Ann a nephew Durwin Ward.
