Duane Koehler, 78, of Cresco, IA passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, IA.

Duane was born on June 10, 1932 at Fort Dodge, IA, to Harry and Auguste (Hayungs) Koehler. He graduated from Swaledale High School in 1952. Following graduation he entered the United States Navy; serving his country in the Korean War. Following the service, he attended school in Des Moines, IA to become a Journeyman Iron Worker.

Duane married Darlene Cook at Kankakee, IL. To this union he had four daughters. He belonged to Ironworkers Local No. 1 in Chicago, IL, where he worked for 30 years. Duane moved his family to a farm south of Cresco, IA in 1975, where he lived until his death. Duane loved to fish and play cards.

He is survived by his wife Darlene, son-in-law, Don Schroeder of La Crescent, MN, four daughters, Roxanne Hendrick of Loveland, CO, Bonnie Schroeder of Marshalltown, IA, Penny (Scott) Schroeder of Richardson TX, and Pamela Sowers of Marshalltown, IA, twelve grandchildren, two brothers, Frank (Joan) of Mason City, IA, and John (Jean) of Waterford, OH, three sisters, Clara Sherrill of San Marcos, TX, Karen (Gary) Peters of Clear Lake, IA, and Mary (Alan) Eggebraaten of Forest City, IA, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara, grandson Dylan, his parents, two brothers, Harry (Pat), and Nicholas (Vietnam War), one sister, Rosella (Gerald) Schmidt, and a brother-in-law, Dale Sherrill.

Cemetery:
Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, IA.

Visitation:
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, IA from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the church.

Service:
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA.
