In 1876 he came to Cresco where he lived till 1902 and was largely instrumental in founding the German Lutheran church in Cresco, building its first church edifice. Children of his own being denied him, he adopted a child, Alma Scholze, now the wife of Sam Ohmacht. In 1902 he moved with his foster daughter and her husband to Verndale, Minn., and finally retired from active life in 1911 to St. Cloud, Minn., where he passed away peacefully Saturday last, Aug 22nd.
