Fred L. Daubersmith was born in Germany Jan. 10, 1842. He came to this country and settled In Wi»consin in 1854, and moved to Iowa in 1856. He was married in 1866 and died July 31, 1914. He wife departed this life in September, 1891.
To them were born ten children, four boys and six girls, two girls and one boy dying In Infancy.
There remain of the family: Mrs. Clara Speer, Chelsea, Mich.; Mrs. Gertrude Ward, Mrs. Vinie Dorman, Miss Marguerite Daubersmith, Ed Daubersmith, Seattle, Wash.: Frank Daubersmith, Cresco, Iowa, Walter Daubersmith, Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Daubersmith was a member of Co. L. 38th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He volunteered Aug. 16, 1862, aged 21 years. He was mustered into the U. S. service on Nov. 4, 1862, at Dubuque and followed the fortunes of his company and regiment with patience and cheerfulness. He was present at the seige{sp} of Vicksburg when every man was worked to the limit in advancing our lines and preventing the enemy’s escape. He was in the expedition to Jackson in pursuit of Johnson whose escape was prevented at . . .
