He came to Iowa with his parents in 1854 and the family located on a farm in Winneshiek county, having Postville for their post office. Eleven years later the family came to Howard county, locating in New Oregon township. The father died on the New Oregon farm. In 1892 the deceased bought a farm two miles northwest of Cresco. The next year his mother died, leaving George and his sister Susanna. In 1995 their only brother Andrew was taken and Susanna followed in 1912, Aug. 20th.
Having a hint of failing health, the deceased sold his farm and came to Cresco in October last. A few days ago he had another warning and was removed to Mercy hospital for care. Seeming improvement was only temporary and delusive, and about 3 o'clock, the 7th he, too, fell asleep, leaving only one known blood relative, a niece, Mrs. Emil Reutlinger to mourn him.
A short service was conducted at the residence of I. J. Booth, Thursday at 1 p. m„ by the Rev. P. C. Shaffer, pastor of the Baptist church, city. Interment at New Oregon cemetery in the family lot.
